jersey devil dice box

this was technically commission work, but this was such a long and multi-layered project that i feel like it deserves its own page. i was asked to make a dice box themed around the jersey devil and the pine barrens.

i started out with a pretty basic balsa wood craft box. then i covered it with reclaimed leather from an embarrassing trenchcoat i bought in middle school. it’s combo glued and sewn on to the wood.

2021

all the designs were first burned on with a pyrography tool, then inlaid with gold paint. in the future, i’d probably go with a less-soft leather for this kinda tooling.

i tried to integrate the seams and stitches present in the leather into the design a bit. this worked out really well for the top of the box, and gives a hint on how to put the lid on the right way.

i know this collage isn’t great, but note that nowhere on this site do i call myself a photographer lol
